Travelling to Cape Breton

By Air: Cape Breton is served by major Canadian Airlines through Sydney Airport. International flights from all major U.S. and Canadian destinations will be connected directly through Halifax, Nova Scotia. Air Canada also has direct flights from London, England to Halifax and from Hamilton Bermuda. Iceland Air has flights to Halifax from most major European cities through Reykjavik. People flying into North America on other international airlines can connect to Nova Scotia destinations through "Air Canada".

Car rentals are availble at Sydney and Halifax Airports. It is advisable to book these in advance. Travel time from Sydney to Dingwall is about 21/2 hours and from Halifax, about 6 hours. Set aside some extra time to stop and take pictures! If you are driving from Halifax, the most spectacular route is up the west coast of Cape Breton, first along the Ceilidh Trail and then along the world famous Cabot Trail to Dingwall.

By Car: Nova Scotia is accessible by car through New Brunswick and by ferry to Maine, U.S.A, via the "Marine Atlantic" ferries from Portland, Maine to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia and from Bar Harbor, Maine to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. Through New Brunswick, Nova Scotia can be accessed through the narrow isthmus which joins the two provinces or via the Saint John, New Brunswick - Digby, Nova Scotia ferry. New Brunswick shares a common border with the state of Maine to the south and Québec to the west.
